Class Studio Lighting Class
Free to PSNWA Members

DescriptionDon’t know your snoot from a barn door? Studio lighting is a skill that takes time to master, but knowing the basics from where to position a light to how a softbox works will help. We will explore basic lighting techniques from High Key to Low Key lighting and basic rules of light and how they affect your image and exposure.

This class is for members who already have basic photographic skills and are at a stage where they want to acquire more specialized skills in the art of studio photography. We will cover the fundamental technical and artistic skills used in today’s contemporary portraiture.

Class Shooting Strategies
Free to PSNWA Members

Description"What settings work best for waterfalls in the daylight or Christmas lights at night? And, how about indoors? Do all my pictures have to look like amateur flash photos?

The answers to these and many other typical shooting situations lie partly in understanding your goals, partly in some advance planning, and partly in some equipment and knowledge. If you're ready to move beyond what the automatic settings on your camera allow you to do and become truly creative, come join us to learn a handful of secrets that will help you capture stunning photographs.

Bring your camera, flash, tripod, and neutral density filters, if you have any. This is not a studio class, but we'll experiment with what we discuss. Please come knowing how to set your aperture, shutter speed and ISO on your camera."

Class Using the Photovision Target
Free to PSNWA Members

DescriptionEver wonder how to keep your pictures from the basketball game from turning out yellow, or how to know the exposure you have selected is correct? One simple piece of equipment you can purchase for less than $100 will ensure your pictures are the correct color and will let you know your exposure is perfect. When used correctly the Photo-vision target can be a most valuable tool to the perfect picture. Indoors or outdoors photographers around the world use the target to adjust white balance and tweak exposures.

We will take pictures in the studio and on location around the PSNWA facility, in various lighting conditions to explore the targets proper use and how it will greatly improve your images. Be sure to bring your camera!

Class Judging a Photographic Print Competition
Free to PSNWA Members

DescriptionNot all images are created equal. Ever thought to yourself “I wonder why this image won?” A large part of photography judging is subjective, but when you use a constructive multi-criteria approach to looking at an image soon standards arise that help determine how an image will score.

PSNWA uses an abbreviated scoring system modified from the Professional Photographers of America system. Learn how Impact, Subject Matter / Creativity, Composition, Technical Mastery, and Print Presentation affect the overall presence of an image and how it ranks in competition. Determine what images you should enter into competitions, or what you need to know to become a PSNWA print judge.

Class PhotoShop Workflows
Free to PSNWA Members

DescriptionYou’ve just come back from taking what you hope to be the best pictures ever. Now what do you do with them? Where do you start? These are questions that have perplexed new, as well as, professional photographers.

This class will review the steps from downloading your photos from the cards to the final print ready picture. We will go over editing steps such as white balancing, sharpness, saturation, highlights, shadows, etc. Topics will include editing applications such as Photoshop Elements, Lightroom, PhotoShop and Bridge.

There is no single workflow that is best for everyone and every picture, so come out and see if there is something new that you can learn or something that you can share with everyone else.
